Why Pancake Day is Good for Hair!

2 mins read By Eva Proudman collagen

Lots of us love and celebrate Pancake Day - but did you know that pancakes aren't just a tasty snack, but offer health benefits to your hair, too?

Hello to all you Absoluters out there! If you, like me, love Pancake Day, I thought that you might like to know how good those pancakes are for your hair!

We all know that the classic pancake recipe needs a few key things: flour, milk, and of course, eggs. But did you know that pancakes aren’t only delicious, but can help your hair health, too? This is because of the egg content of pancakes.

Eggs are a really super source of protein. You get 12 grams of protein from two large eggs - which works out at around ¼ of your daily protein requirement, and is just what your hair needs to thrive.

In fact, eggs are a superfood in their own right containing small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by our bodies, as well as antioxidants.

As well as containing protein, eggs are also a good source of B Vitamins, which are water soluble. One of these in particular, Biotin, is known to promote healthy hair, skin and nails. Biotin helps to protect our hair from dryness, increases the hair’s elasticity, and helps to prevent hair breakage. Vitamin B12, meanwhile, helps with the production of oxygen rich red blood cells and converting proteins into cell renewal activities, while Vitamin B5 (also called Panthenol) helps to hydrate the hair. Finally, Vitamin B2, (also known as Riboflavin) helps to convert protein into energy to support hair growth. All of these important B vitamins are also contained in eggs.

But the benefits don’t stop there! Calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, folate and selenium all come from a single egg, too. Eggs also support keratin production which forms the main structure of the hair!

Then we come to the toppings! Did you know, adding lemon or orange juice to your pancakes helps with iron absorption? Loading them with fruits such as strawberries and blueberries, meanwhile, will up the antioxidant content as well as deliver a boost of vitamin C and folic acid - all great for your general health, but especially for your hair health.

So this year, celebrate Pancake Day in style and give your hair a veritable feast of protein, vitamins and minerals.

As always, if you have any general hair queries or concerns then please email me at eva@absolutecollagen.com and I will be very happy to help and support you as much as possible.
